Goodwell, Okla. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggie volleyball team made a statement in their home opener, sweeping Langston University in straight sets (25-20, 25-15, 25-21). The victory marks the Aggies' first win, improving their record and building momentum as they look ahead to their next matchup.
Oklahoma Panhandle State controlled the match from the start, with standout performances from several players. Ava Newby led the charge with 13 kills, while Taylor Silva and Taylore Alsaid added 8 kills each to power the Aggies' offense. Brenna Moore's three aces highlighted the team's aggressive service game, keeping Langston on their heels throughout the night.
The Aggie defense played impressively, holding Langston to a .149 hitting percentage over three sets. Nyah Ulmer anchored the back row with 13 digs, while Teagan Mendoza-Werner followed with 12 digs. Ulmer also contributed a match-high 23 assists, showcasing her versatility as a key playmaker.
Head Coach Myers praised the team's cohesive performance: "We were efficient and were able to take care of business on our home court. We still have some things to clean up. However, it was incredible to get this win on our home court with the support of our fans."
In set one, the Aggies hit .250 as a team, overcoming Langston's strong start. The second set was even more dominant, with the Aggies posting a .310 hitting percentage, limiting their errors, and capitalizing on Langston's mistakes. The third set proved a battle, but the Aggies held firm to close out the match.
The Aggies outpaced Langston in every statistical category, recording 40 kills to Langston's 30 and hitting at a .262 clip overall. The team also recorded a balanced defensive effort, with Emma Coburn, Cami Kenny, and Newby each contributing a block. This win made it a thirteen-game winning streak for the Aggies against the Langston Lions.
