Goodwell, the Aggies women's soccer team, faced Avila University in their first-ever meeting on Saturday afternoon. Despite an intense game, the Aggies fell 3-1 in the non-conference matchup.
The Eagles struck first, scoring in the 19th minute and adding another goal in the 42nd minute, leaving the Aggies down 2-0 at halftime. Avila increased their lead in the second half with a goal in the 62nd minute.
The Aggies continued to fight and broke through late, with Celeste Maldonado scoring a goal in the 89th minute, assisted by Emily Chavez.Â
After the game, head coach Ken McAlpine noted,"Although we didn't get the result we were hoping for today, I have to praise our team's resolve in continuing to press and try to get back into the game. Glad that we got the last goal as we deserved it for how hard we worked in the second half. We will look to continue that intensity into our next game on Monday".
