Goodwell, OK. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies women's basketball team faced a tough matchup against the Langston University Lions on Saturday afternoon, falling 64-27 in a Sooner Athletic Conference contest.
The Lions, currently one of the top teams in the conference, showcased their dominance early, outscoring the Aggies 19-4 in the first quarter. Langston's balanced attack and strong defense limited the Aggies offensively throughout the game.
Despite the loss, several Aggies players performed notablely. Junior forward Lyric Carpenter led the team with seven points, three rebounds, and one steal in 23 minutes of play. Freshman guard Jana Radovanovic provided a spark off the bench, scoring eight points, including a perfect 6-for-8 performance from the free-throw line. Sophomore guard Zamari Reece added four points and a team-high five assists.
The Aggies struggled offensively as a team, shooting 19.5% (8-of-41) from the field and 0-of-6 from beyond the arc. However, their effort at the free-throw line stood out, converting 11-of-14 attempts (78.6%). Defensively, the Aggies showed resilience, grabbing 25 rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass.
Langston's high-pressure defense forced 26 turnovers, and the Lions capitalized on the opportunities with a well-rounded offensive effort. The Lions outscored the Aggies in all four quarters, with their most significant margin coming in the first half.
Head Coach Wiltzius reflected on the game, stating, "Langston is a very talented team, and they showed why they're one of the top contenders in the SAC. While it was a tough game, I'm proud of our players' defensive effort. We'll use this as a learning experience and continue to work hard to improve."
