GOODWELL, OK. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies women's basketball team faced a tough battle at Anchor D Arena on Saturday, falling to the Texas Wesleyan Rams 65-45. Despite showing vigorous defensive intensity in the first half, turnovers in the second half allowed the Rams to pull away.
The Aggies started the game with energy, trailing by just one point at the end of the first quarter (13-12). However, Texas Wesleyan's consistent scoring and defensive pressure widened the gap in the second quarter, sending the Aggies into halftime down 27-22. The Rams delivered a dominant third quarter, outscoring the Aggies 20-7, ultimately sealing the Aggies' fate.
Head Coach Wiltzius emphasized the importance of ball control in her post-game remarks. "Our defensive intensity was great in the first half," Wiltzius said. "We had several turnovers in the second half that led to losing our defensive intensity. We have to learn how to take care of the ball. However, I'm very proud of the team's effort and who I have on the court."
Heidi Rodriguez led the Aggies, who scored a team-high 14 points, shooting 5-of-13 from the field and 2-of-8 from beyond the arc. Lyric Carpenter added 9 points and led the Aggies with 8 rebounds. Jana Radovanovic contributed 7 points, while Diana Santos recorded 5 and 4 rebounds.
Texas Wesleyan's balanced offense and depth proved to be the difference, as they outscored the Aggies in three of the four quarters. With this loss, the Aggies dropped to 1-19 overall and 1-16 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
