Goodwell, OK – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggie women's basketball team faced a tough challenge on the road, falling to Nelson University 69-27 on Thursday night. The Aggies struggled offensively against a strong defensive effort from the home team, dropping to 1-20 overall and 1-17 in conference play.
Nelson University controlled the tempo from the start, jumping out to a 14-4 lead in the first quarter. The Aggies fought to gain momentum but could not find their rhythm, scoring only nine points in the second quarter and trailing 34-13 at halftime. The second half continued favoring the home team, as Nelson extended its lead with a dominant play on both ends of the court.
Leading the Aggies was Diana Santos, who contributed six points and pulled down nine rebounds. Freshman guard Zamari Reece came off the bench to add a team-high nine points, including a three-pointer, while Jana Radovanovic chipped in six points and four rebounds. Despite their efforts, OPSU struggled to convert field goals, shooting 16.1% (10-62) from the floor and 11.1% (2-18) from beyond the arc.
The Aggies fought hard on the boards, outrebounding Nelson 38-37, with Lyric Carpenter grabbing 10 rebounds. However, turnovers proved costly, as OPSU committed 17 turnovers while Nelson capitalized on scoring opportunities.
