Goodwell, OK – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University women's basketball team fought intensely on Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell to the University of North Texas at Dallas, 66-46.
The Aggies started the game intensely, outscoring the Trailblazers 18-14 in the first quarter. However, UNT Dallas responded with a dominant second quarter, putting up 21 points while holding OPSU to just nine. The Aggies continued to battle but could not regain momentum in the second half as UNT Dallas extended their lead.
Senior Diana Santos led OPSU with an impressive double-double, scoring 16 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Carolyn Olvera provided a spark off the bench, tallying 10 points and four rebounds. Jana Radovanovic also contributed a solid performance with six points and 10 rebounds.
Despite intense efforts on the boards, where the Aggies outrebounded UNT Dallas 42-38, turnovers proved costly, as OPSU committed 35 compared to UNT Dallas' 17. The Trailblazers capitalized on these opportunities, creating a significant gap in scoring efficiency.
"We came out strong in the first quarter but struggled to maintain that momentum," said head coach Wiltzius. "We had some bright spots, but the turnovers and missed opportunities made it tough to stay in the game."
