Baseball: Split Home Opener Against Panthers

GOODWELL, Okla. – Aggies baseball team hosted their first home games at Carroll Gribble Field, splitting Friday's doubleheader against York University. The Aggies pulled off a thrilling come-from-behind walk-off victory in game one with a six-run seventh inning to win 9-7 but fell short in game two, losing 9-2.

Game One:

York University jumped to an early lead, scoring in the first four innings to take a 5-2 advantage. The Aggies kept pace with a first-inning RBI single from Jackson Somerville and a solo home run from Isaiah Halton in the third.

York added two more runs in the sixth to stretch their lead to 7-2, but OPSU responded with a double from Devin Lopez that brought in a run, cutting the deficit to four entering the final frame.

The seventh inning proved to be a defining moment for the Aggies. With the bases loaded, Somerville was hit by a pitch, forcing in a run. Lopez followed with a clutch bases-clearing double to tie the game at 7-7.

Alejandro Hernandez then sealed the victory with a two-run home run to left field, with the dramatic 9-7 walk-off win.

On the mound, Josh Doerr made his second career appearance against York, throwing six innings and allowing just two earned runs while striking out four. Riley Rivera won in relief, striking out two in the final inning.

Game Two:

York University wasted no time setting the tone in the second game, scoring twice in the first inning. The Aggies responded with a solo home run from Ryota Kusumoto, but York steadily built their lead with runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings, ultimately securing a 9-2 victory.
