GOODWELL, OK- The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggie women's basketball team battled but fell short Monday night against the Wayland Baptist Flying Queens, 90-56, in Sooner Athletic Conference action at Anchor D Arena.
Wayland Baptist ranked among the conference's top teams, set the tone early, taking a 20-11 lead after the first quarter and extending their advantage throughout the game. The Aggies showed resilience, highlighted by a strong fourth-quarter effort, where they outscored the Flying Queens 21-20.
Leading the Aggies offensively was guard Zamari Reece, who tallied 11 points, grabbed six rebounds, and went 5-for-6 at the free-throw line. Diana Santos added a solid performance with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Jana Radovanovic chipped in eight points and four boards.
Head Coach Wiltzius praised her team's effort and focus despite the loss.
"Losing is never fun, but when you're executing the game plan and playing hard, there are many things to be proud of," Wiltzius said. "The girls have been very coachable, and we are moving in the right direction."
The Aggies shot 33% from the field, connecting on 19 of their 57 attempts, and were effective from the free-throw line, making 14 of 17. The Flying Queens proved dominant in the paint and on the boards, outrebounding the Aggies 44-31 and maintaining offensive efficiency throughout the contest.
With this result, Panhandle State falls to 1-14 overall and 1-11 in SAC play.
