OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma Panhandle State volleyball was honored Monday with the Sooner Athletic Conference Volleyball's Attacker and Defender of the Week, awarded to
Elena Kagiali and
Winiffer Rodriguez, respectively.
After a perfect 3-0 week at home that saw the Aggies surge to third in the conference standings, OPSU's versatile outside hitter, Kagiali, and defensive anchor, Rodriguez, claimed their first weekly SAC individual honors of their careers.
Both players got out to blistering starts on the week, with Kagiali posting 30 kills at a .417 clip and Rodriguez notching 31 digs in a 3-1 win on Tuesday over Wayland Baptist. Both of those figures represent single-match highs across the entire SAC this season.
Kagiali finished her week with 59 kills on a 4.92 kills per set average and a .252 hitting percentage. She also contributed immensely to the defense with 74 receptions, 34 digs and six blocks in the three matches.
Rodriguez, meanwhile, averaged an incredible 5.58 digs per set to total 67 digs across the week. Her play helped the flow of the offense, too, as she recorded nine assists and a kill.
The week of Oct. 6-12 marks the first time OPSU volleyball has collected multiple Player of the Week Awards in the same week during head coach
Ilani Dalton's tenure. They also mark the fourth and fifth awards received by Aggie volleyball, and the eighth and ninth weekly SAC awards across all Aggie athletics, in the 2025-26 year.
Panhandle State (11-10, 9-5 SAC) looks for its fourth straight victory when it travels to Southwestern Christian (1-16, 1-13) on Friday at 6 p.m.
