GOODWELL, Okla. — Oklahoma Panhandle State University Athletics Director, Victor Esparza, announced Tuesday that head volleyball coach Ilani Dalton would be stepping down from her post with the Aggies.

Dalton, who has spent the past two seasons at the helm of the program, expressed gratitude towards OPSU while looking forward to new opportunities for herself and her family.

"I want to give thanks to God for this journey and opportunity, for the countless blessings, the strength during challenges, and the guidance that has shaped my path and my character," Dalton said. "It is through my faith that I know this is the right decision for me and my family at this time, and I am excited for the new opportunities that lie ahead.

"As I close this chapter of my professional life, I am overwhelmed with a profound sense of gratitude. I want to express my deepest appreciation to the University administration and the athletic department for the opportunity to lead the volleyball program. I am especially grateful for the dedication and hard work of the exceptional young women I've had the privilege to coach. The memories and relationships built here will hold a special place in my heart forever.

"I wish the program, the University, and all the players continued success in the future. God bless."

Hired in May 2024, Dalton led the Aggies to a 25-36 overall record, including a 16-15 mark in the 2025 season that concluded with the program's first appearance in the Sooner Athletic Conference Semifinals.

OPSU volleyball's win totals increased by one and seven, respectively, from the previous season under Dalton's direction.

"We would like to thank Ilani for her dedication and commitment to building on a culture of excellence for our volleyball student-athletes," Esparza said. "Her leadership has helped raise the standard for the program, and we wish her nothing but the best moving forward."

Prior to her two years with the Aggies, Dalton had served as the head volleyball coach for Louisburg College, where she led the program to the second round of the playoffs.

A national search for the next head volleyball coach at Oklahoma Panhandle State University will begin immediately.
