Baseball: Takes Series Over Bobcats
GOODWELL, Okla. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University baseball team secured a series victory over Peru State this past weekend, winning three out of four games against the Bobcats.Â
Game One: Doerr Dominates in Shutout Victory
The Aggies kicked off the series with a commanding 3-0 win, led by an outstanding pitching performance from Josh Doerr. The right-hander threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits and striking out nine over seven innings.
The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when OPSU capitalized on defensive miscues by Peru State. Ryota Kusumoto scored the game's first run on a throwing error, followed by a two-RBI double from Jackson Somerville that brought home Devin Lopez and Bill Bonner, sealing the Aggies' victory.
Game Two: Early Offense Lifts Aggies to 2-1 Win
In the second game of the series, the Aggies edged out a 2-1 victory thanks to early offensive production. Alejandro Hernandez started things in the second inning with a run, driven in by a Somerville double. Kobe Morgan followed up with an RBI single to bring Somerville home.
Peru State cut the deficit in the third inning with an RBI single. The Aggie pitching duo of Esai Torres and Juan Javier held firm. Torres (2-0) earned the win with six innings of one-run ball, while Javier secured his second save of the season.
