ALVA, Okla. – Aggies baseball took the field Tuesday afternoon for a midweek contest against Northwestern Oklahoma State University, falling 12-2 in Alva.
The Aggies struggled to generate offense against the Rangers' pitching staff, recording nine hits but plating just two runs in the seventh inning. Northwestern Oklahoma State took control early. It never looked back, capitalizing on timely hitting and defensive miscues from the Aggies.
OPSU broke through in the seventh when
Israel Gandara singled to right center to drive in
Jackson Somerville.
Isaiah Halton followed with an RBI single up the middle, bringing home
Luke Reiter to make it 9-2. However, the Rangers answered with three more runs to put the game out of reach.
Reiter led the Aggies at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored, while
Devin Lopez also recorded a multi-hit performance, finishing 2-for-4.
Alejandro Hernandez added a double, and
Chance Wycoff and Gandara each contributed a hit.
On the mound,
Josh Doerr (2-4) started for the Aggies, allowing two earned runs on three hits in two innings.
Leandro Tamaki and
Zach Mayhew combined for the final 4.2 innings, with Mayhew striking out a batter while allowing three earned runs.
The Aggies will now focus on a tough Sooner Athletic Conference series this weekend as they travel to face #17 Mid-America Christian University in a three-game set in Oklahoma City. First pitch is set for Saturday, March 15, with a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 PM and 6:30 PM, followed by a single game on Sunday, March 16, at 12:00 PM.
