Baseball: Falls to USAO in Series Opener

Chickasha, Okla. – Aggies baseball team hit the road to take on University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) Drovers on Thursday night in a nine-inning contest. Despite a strong effort, the Aggies fell 10-2 to the Drovers at Bill Smith Ballpark.

The Drovers took an early lead in the second inning, capitalizing on an RBI sacrifice fly and an RBI single to go up 2-0.

A big third inning saw USAO extend its advantage, with a grand slam by G. Hansen pushing the score to 6-0. The Aggies broke onto the scoreboard in the sixth inning. Kobe Morgan and Devin Lopez sparked the offense, with Ryota Kusumoto driving in Morgan on an RBI single. Isaac Young followed with a groundout RBI that plated Lopez, cutting the deficit to 7-2.

However, USAO responded immediately, adding insurance runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to secure the 10-2 victory.

By the Numbers:

  • The Aggies recorded five hits on the night, with Morgan, Lopez, Kusumoto, Alejandro Hernandez, and Bill Bonner each collecting one.
  • Starting pitcher Braden Greene (1-3) went five innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs (four earned) while striking out one.
  • Riley Rivera and Chad Berry combined for three innings in relief, allowing three runs and four hits.
  • The Aggies committed two errors, while the Drovers tallied two.

The Aggies will look to bounce back as they take on USAO tomorrow in a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM, and game two is set for 4:30 PM at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Okla.
