GOODWELL, Okla. — Aggies baseball hosted the Nelson University Lions in a conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, but dropped both contests, falling 20-4 in game one and 17-1 in game two.
Game One: Nelson 20, OPSU 4
The Aggies opened strong in the first game, taking a 4-2 lead after a big second inning. Isaiah Young crossed home plate on an error to get OPSU on the board, followed by a wild pitch that allowed Jackson Somerville to score. Kobe Morgan added an RBI single, and Ryota Kusumoto capped the rally with another run-scoring base hit to give the Aggies an early advantage.
However, Nelson responded with a seven-run third inning and continued to pile on the offense, ultimately scoring 18 unanswered runs to take control of the game.
Josh Doerr started on the mound for the Aggies, tossing 2.2 innings and allowing six earned runs. Leandro Tamaki, Chad Berry, Jace Kushner, James Moya, Tomas Medina, and Joseph Hext saw time out of the bullpen in relief.
Five Aggies recorded hits in the opener.
Game Two: Nelson 17, OPSU 1
In the second game, OPSU struck first when Kusumoto scored on an RBI groundout from Xavier Garcia, but the early 1-0 lead would not hold.
Nelson in the fifth and a three-run rally in the seventh that helped seal the deal.
Juan Javier delivered a solid start for the Aggies, throwing two hitless innings and striking out four. Esai Torres followed with four innings of work, giving up three earned runs on four hits. Nelson broke the game wide open in the seventh with a 14-run outburst against the Aggie bullpen.
