WICHITA FALLS, Texas — The Oklahoma Panhandle State men's cross country team competed Thursday morning at the Mustang Derby in Wichita Falls, Texas, where
Trevor Youngblood rounded into form to lead the Aggies' efforts with a school record in the 6k.
Youngblood showcased his talents with a bounce-back, historic race time of 20:17.9 on the 6k track, taking 29th of 74 individuals.
Senior
Joshua Samaron was next for OPSU, coming in under 21 minutes and inside the top 50 by clocking a 20:58.7.
Bramhan Matschek recorded a time of 24:45.6 to complete the Aggies' trio.
Coach Hall's Thoughts …
On the team: "We had a pretty good day. I thought Trevor ran really, really well today, he's starting to look like the Trevor we know and expect to have. … He got after it today, he had a really good time. Josh ran good, but not as well as he's capable of. I think he thought about it a little bit too much today instead of going out and racing, he was trying to be a little bit too calculating about what he was doing, … but he still ran well. Bramhan continues to get in better shape. … We'll try to get him healthy so we can get him where we need him to be, but overall, not too bad for the men."
On the schedule ahead: "We're getting better, starting to look good. We've got kind of one more meet that I'm calling a 'preseason meet,' and then we're going to head into our home stretch where we want things to be pretty sharp."
What's up next: The Aggies continue their season ramp-up when they head to Las Vegas, New Mexico, on Sept. 26 for the NMHU Cross Country Jam.
