COLBY, Kan. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State men's and women's rodeo teams both claimed third place in a successful start to the 2025-26 NIRA season at Colby Community College from Sept. 11-13.
The men's team had five individuals see action in the short round, highlighted by
Porter Hall's shared first-place finish with his team roping partner, Kyler Altmiler of Northwestern Oklahoma State.
The women's team sent three Aggies to the short round, where OPSU finished with the most points of any institution in the breakaway roping.
Men's Performances
Luke Tippmann followed a runner-up showing in the long-go of bareback riding with 69 points by taking fourth place in the short round with 63 points, just a half-point back of third. The average put Tippmann at third place overall in the event.
Jack Phillips and
Zane Kreikemeier both made the short round in tie down roping, with their average times resulting in third and eighth place, respectively. Phillips was steady with times of 11.3 seconds and 12.4 seconds for fifth and fourth places, respectively, in the long and short rounds. Kreikemeier, meanwhile, opened with a stellar 9.4 seconds to lead in the long-go before taking eighth place in the short round.
Riley Stark made it to the short round in the saddle bronc riding, where he improved slightly from his long round with a score of 69.5 points in the short round – good for seventh place.
Roping with Altmiler, Hall and his teammate placed second in both the long and short rounds with times of 6.9 and 8.5 seconds, respectively, ultimately averaging out to the first-place spot.
Women's Performances
Camree Slavin completed the short round of breakaway roping in a tidy 2.4 seconds to take second place, which averaged out to third place overall including the long round.
Also in the breakaway roping,
Layni Masters' performance was highlighted in the long round by stopping the clock at 2.2 seconds for the top time. Her short-go time was 3.9 seconds, which placed her in sixth.
Rounding out Panhandle State's efforts in the short round was
Emilee Carroll, who tied for fourth/fifth in the long-go of barrel racing, but did not record a time in finals.
What's up next: Aggie Rodeo heads to Durant, Oklahoma, for its next competition from Sept. 25-27, hosted by Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
