GOODWELL, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State men's soccer team (4-1-1) made program history Thursday evening at Anchor D Stadium when it became the first Aggies squad to string together three consecutive home shutouts. The feat was accomplished in front of a large crowd as OPSU beat NCAA Division II-affiliated Colorado Christian (0-4-1) 1-0, tying the program's best-ever start through six matches in a season.
Monroe College transfer
Othman Gherab broke the scoreless tie with his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 70th minute.
Gherab's game winner was assisted by
Miguel Chavez, who earned his first helper of the season with a well-placed pass to the feet of Gherab. From there, Gherab evaded a defender in stride and got a shot off from the top right corner of the box, which was deflected by a Cougar into the back of the net.
The goal came in the middle of a second-half onslaught that saw the Aggies put up 10 shots after only mustering two in the opening 45 minutes.
Of OPSU's 12 total shots, six were on goal.
Ayoup Bader placed all three of his shots on frame, while
Sodjantsan Battuvshin and
Paolo Rocha each joined Gherab with a shot on goal.
The first half was a defensive struggle, as
Aron Kanyai made three saves.
Olai Caicoya, who picked up his first goalkeeper win of 2025, played the second half between the posts and also tallied three saves.
What's up next: Panhandle State heads to Alamosa, Colorado, on Sunday to take on Adams State University (1-3) at 3 p.m. MST in the final nonconference match of the season.
