OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Panhandle State men's basketball team (6-19, 4-16 SAC) came out energized on the road facing RV Oklahoma City (17-9, 14-6) Saturday afternoon, but the Aggies were outplayed in the second half of a 74-58 defeat.
Aaron Williams Jr. put together a fantastic opening 20 minutes of play as he led the Aggies to a 39-38 advantage heading into halftime.
Both he and
Ederick Coleman Jr. had their shot falling early as OPSU opened up a 26-20 lead less than 12 minutes in. The Aggies also dominated the glass and crisply moved the ball throughout the first half in an effort to keep their SAC Tournament chances afloat.
The script flipped entirely once the second-half horn sounded, with Panhandle State falling behind by 18 before the second media timeout.
OCU slowed down the pace in the waning minutes as its defense stepped up, holding the Aggies to 6-for-32 shooting from the floor in the second period.
Williams Jr. scored 21 points to lead all scorers in the contest.
Christian Campbell and
Mike Carter added eight apiece, with Campbell putting together a well-rounded performance of seven rebounds, three assists, one block and a steal.
