GOODWELL, Okla. —Oklahoma Panhandle State University Athletics has named track & field's Carolina Valenzuela and Joshua Samaron as the Mack's Motorsports Aggies of the Week for their performances spanning Feb. 9-15.
Valenzuela and the men's and women's track & field squads went to Topeka, Kansas, to compete in the Ichabod Invitational hosted by Washburn University this past weekend. There, Valenzuela competed in the 3,000-meters, racing to a time of 11:15.21. The time shattered her own program record in the event by over 19.0 seconds, keeping the distance runner from Pampa, Texas, firmly atop OPSU's list.
Along the lines of setting PRs, Samaron managed to break personal-bests in both events he participated in during the weekend at Washburn University. In the mile, the senior clocked a 4:40.35 to come within two seconds of breaking the program record. Samaron followed that up with a time of 9:21.15 in the 3,000-meters that reset his own program record by nine seconds.
