LEVELLAND, Texas  — Program records in the javelin and hammer throw fell for the Oklahoma Panhandle State men's outdoor track & field team Friday at the South Plains College Alumni Elite Invitational.

Ayden Hendershot had a career all-around performance, leading the Aggies in the discus, shot put and hammer throw. His efforts were highlighted by a school-record mark of 41.69 meters in the hammer, which broke the previous distance set earlier this season by over three meters.

Xavyer Mosqueda, who had held the hammer throw record, would have reset it Friday with his 39.90-meters throw had it not been for Hendershot's efforts. Instead, Mosqueda claimed the new program record in the javelin, beating out the old mark with his showing of 45.41 meters.

The throwers were paced by Hendershot in the shot put and discus, as the sophomore finished fifth and seventh in the events, respectively, with throws of 12.02 and 39.00 meters. William Sirmans placed sixth in the shot put at 10.85 meters, and Jayden Blair performed well in the discus with his 10th-place mark of 34.27 meters. Aaron Vinson and Blair came through with big season bests in the hammer as well.

Elsewhere, Joshua Samaron and Bramhan Matschek both ran well in the 1,500-meters, notching personal-best times of 4:19.35 and 4:59.33, respectively. Samaron also led OPSU in the 800-meters, crossing in 2:08.44.

Austin White and Dillon Bruington headlined the Aggies' efforts in the 200-meters with top-eight finishes out of 26 competitors. White took fifth with his time of 21.90 seconds, and Bruington was seventh with his 22.04.

Bruington continued his strong season in the 100-meters, notching a time of 10.69 seconds. White and Christian Soto joined him as Aggies finishing under 11.00, stopping the clock at 10.80 and 10.92 seconds, respectively.

The Aggies' 4x100-meter relay group consisted of Bruington, Jason Granillo, White and Soto, and they took third with a time of 41.79 seconds.

Coach Cyrus Hall's Thoughts: Hall was thrilled with the efforts of his throwers and pleased with the distance runners, but he knows there's more the sprinters can show as a whole.

"I think the throwers are coming together, I'm really excited about them. About three more weeks, and they're all going to be really comfortable with some of the things that we're doing, and then hopefully that light switch hits and they go crazy at conference. … I'm proud of them, they did really good today."

"As a sprints coach, I'm a little frustrated, because I feel like we should be way better than we are. On paper we're better, at practice we're better, it just hasn't translated to the meets yet," Hall said.

What's up next: The Aggies are scheduled to head to Canyon, Texas, April 10-11 for the Jo Meaker Classic, serving as the final meet before the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships.
