BETHANY, Okla. – Oklahoma Panhandle State University men's soccer had its three-match win streak snapped on the road, losing to Southwestern Christian University, 3-0. The loss dropped the Aggies to 7-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OPSU goalkeeper
Cristhofer Monje was charged with all three Eagle scores. Monje had seven saves, overall, six in the first half alone. In the second half, the Aggie defense stiffened and Monje had just two shots on-goal against him.
Panhandle's attack continued to take shots at a high level. The Aggies put nine –of-11 total shot attempts directly on goal (.818), all of which, unfortunately for the visitors, were turned away by SWU net-minder Gerald Espinalt.
Victor Bernal,
Cheslon Carollisen and
Luke Watson-Read each took two shots and each put both of their tries on frame.
The Eagles had 17 shot attempts, 10 on-goal. Southwestern Christian tallied two goals in the first half – including one in the first minute of play - and had one score in the second.
The Aggies will travel to John Brown University on Thursday (Oct. 17) of next week for a SAC match. OPSU also hosts Bacone College next Sunday (Oct. 20) at Anchor D Stadium at Carl Wooten Field.
