PLAINVIEW, Texas – Despite Oklahoma Panhandle State University's volleyball team dropping a 3-0 decision at Wayland Baptist University, the Aggies (9-15, 6-10 SAC) were able to claim a spot in the Sooner Athletic Conference post-season tournament. It marked the second-consecutive season that the Panhandle team was able to secure a spot in the eight-team SAC event.
The Aggies entered the night with a "magic number" of one – any OPSU win or Langston defeat – to earn a trip to the SAC post-season. Even though Panhandle fell to the Pioneers (25-15, 25-9, 25-8), Langston also lost versus Oklahoma City University, punching Panhandle's ticket. The Aggies now have four matches remaining to potentially improve their seed in the tournament (currently occupying the No. 8 slot).
Versus Wayland, the Aggies' attack was led by
Skylar Cleavinger's seven kills in 19 attempts.
Hannah Murray added four kills and seven digs.
Sydnee Saunders knocked down three kills, also contributing seven digs and an ace.
Sophomore libero
Ashley Sanchez led the back row players with 10 digs. Setter
Keeley Johnston had 11 assists.
The Panhandle attack struggled mightily as a group, hitting a minus-.116 as a team, due to 26 attack errors and eight Pioneer blocks. Conversely, WBU hit .300 for the match and served up 11 aces.
OPSU will next be in action this Friday (Nov. 1) at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas.
