GOODWELL, Okla. – Playing its third game in less than 70 hours took a toll on the Oklahoma Panhandle State University men's basketball squad. The Aggies (2-1) absorbed their first loss of the season in a non-conference contest at the hands of the University of the Southwest (N.M.), 82-67, at Anchor D Arena.

Playing the afternoon game, after winning its second-straight in Plainview, Texas on Friday night over Arlington Baptist, Panhandle shooting from the field, overall, was slightly off. Entering with a team field goal average hovering in the mid-40 percentile, OPSU made just 38 percent from the field (21-56) versus the Mustangs. The same was true at the free throw stripe, making just 64 percent after bringing in a 75-percent average. The same was true in rebounds, where USW held a commanding 47-28 cushion over the Aggies.

Conversely, USW poured in 52 percent of its shots overall. The Mustangs also struggle at the line, making 64 percent (14-of-22).

The one place that was a bright spot for a weary Panhandle roster came from beyond the arc. The Aggies shot a blistering 54 percent (7-13) from three-point range against the Mustangs.

Maurice Waters topped the Panhandle team with 16 points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes of court time. Waters was 7-of-11 from the floor, also making a pair of steals.

Brett Williams was to only other OPSU player in double digits with 10 points, on a 3-of-6 shooting game. He also had two steals and an assist to his credit.

Auston Chatman had a nice all-around game for Laird. Chatman booked eight points, thanks to a pair of treys, and hauled down six rebounds (all on the defensive end). He also dished off three assists.

DK Sumo IV matched Chatman's three assists, while chipping in seven points, as well. Terrance Gibbons, Daniel Holyfield and Quentin Fankhouser each contributed six points. Gibbons corralled five rebounds and made one blocked shot in his 16-plus minutes off the Aggie bench.

After taking a few days off, Panhandle State will play its second-consecutive home game on Tuesday (Nov. 7/7 p.m.), hosting Barclay College in a non-conference match-up at Anchor D Arena.
