GOODWELL, Okla. – Oklahoma Panhandle State University men's soccer closed out its inaugural regular season slate of games exactly as it wanted: with a victory before its home fans at Anchor D Stadium. The Aggies capped a highly-successful first regular season with a 2-0 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University, to head into the Sooner Athletic Conference post-season tournament with a 9-5-2 overall record and 4-4-1 in the SAC.

It was the Aggies fourth shutout of the season.

"All-in-all it was a decent performance by the boys today," said OPSU Head Coach Brandon Misuraca. "It's good to see the group get off to a positive start early in the match, going up one nil within the first 15 minutes, as well as keeping another clean sheet.

"Now the focus is on preparing ourselves for the conference tournament."

Misuraca and the Aggies got all the offense they would need from junior Cheslon Carollisen. The Cape Town, South Africa native was responsible for both of his team's goals versus the Lions, now giving him a team-best 12 goals scored this season.

Carrolisen scored in the 14th minute of the match, after receiving a perfect feed from teammate Allan Gamboa. His second goal of the day was netted in the 86th minute on a direct kick. On the season, Carollisen now has three-match-winning goals.

Panhandle out-shot SAGU by a 19-10 margin. Both teams put five shots directly on goal. The Aggies blitzed the Lions in the first half, with an 11-2 disparity in total shots (each team took eight in the second stanza). Gamboa and Andres Munoz each took three shots for the Aggie attack. Carollisen had three shots on frame, with Gamboa and Francisco Ramirez each putting one shot at SAGU goalie Julio Guevara.

Panhandle goalkeeper Winston Sappenfield turned away all five shots on-goal in registering the shutout. Four of his saves game in the critical second half.

The Aggies also had a decided advantage in corner kicks, 8-2. Each team was whistled for being offside twice.

SAC tournament pairings are expected to officially be released by Wednesday, after all teams have completed SAC matches.
