Box Score
GOODWELL, Okla. – Oklahoma Panhandle State University men's basketball never trailed in its 77-64 non-conference win over Barclay College at Anchor D Arena. The Aggies improved to 3-1 on the season with the victory over the Bears (0-3).

The win was a special treat for the 546 OPSU faithful in attendance, as it was the Aggies last home game in Anchor D Arena until next year! By a quirk in the schedule, Panhandle does not play again on its home floor until January 9, 2020, playing its next nine games (including two exhibition games among those) on the road.

The final result was never much in doubt, as OPSU raced ahead by as many as 14 points in the first half and never let the margin slip below double-figures after the 2:19 mark of the opening stanza. The Aggies largest lead was 23, 75-52, with 3:56 left in the game, thanks to a field goal from Jalen Williams.

Williams would finish the game with six points and a game-leading seven assists.

"We wanted to focus on being tougher to score on," Panhandle State Head Coach Mark Laird said in his post-game comments. "And I think we did that for the most part. It is a long season and we know we are building for the future. We are learning more-and-more how to play together, on both ends. That will be huge for us in the long run."

A key aspect for the Aggies' success, thus far, in 2019-20 has been the ability of a largely-new roster, to blend with a handful of talented returning veterans. That was on display once again versus Barclay, especially as every available player not only scored, but no one played less than 13 minutes.

Junior guard DK Sumo led OPSU with 16 points. Sumo hit 6-for-11 from the floor, including a game-best 4-of-5 from three-point range.

Newcomers Auston Chatman, a freshman guard/forward combo, and sophomore transfer Terrance Gibbons, a forward, each also contributed in double-figure scoring. Chatman was 6-of-13 from the field on his way to a 15-point night, while Gibbons was a perfect 4-of-4 shooting in his 12-point game. Each also pulled down six rebounds.

But the "chairman of the boards" went to sophomore transfer – and Goodwell native - Quentin Fankhouser. Fankhouser corralled a game-high 12 rebounds, eight of which came on the defensive end. He also chipped in eight points, two assists and two steals.

Veteran Aggies Tristan Womble, Brett Williams and Garret Hoffman combined for 10 points and four rebounds off the bench. Junior transfer Maurice Waters had another balanced game, giving Laird seven points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots in 15 minutes of relief work. Daniel Holyfield notched four points and five rebounds before fouling out.

OPSU continued its hot shooting, canning 47 percent (29-62) from the floor as a team and making good on 41 percent (9-22) from beyond the arc. Conversely, the defensive effort Laird evoked held the Bears to 31-percent shooting from the field and 26 percent from three-point country.

Panhandle will have a rematch versus the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, N.M. on Saturday at 4 p.m. (CT). The Aggies' only loss this season came at the hands of USW on November 2 in Goodwell.
