Panhandle State Rodeo Builds Momentum at SEOSU

Panhandle State cowboys and cowgirls made the long trip to Durant, Oklahoma for the Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The women's team finished second with the men's team taking third for the weekend.

Beau Peterson, a senior, led the way for the women's team winning the Women's All-Around title. Peterson made a clean sweep for OPSU in the Breakaway Roping winning the long round with a 2.2-second run and split first and second place with a 2.7-second run in the short go. With this consistency, she won the average for the weekend. Freshman, Laney Harper, joined Peterson in the short go after placing ninth and tenth with a 2.8-second run in the long round but fell short in the final round.

Freshman, Parker McIntyre, made her first appearance by splitting first and second in the long round of the Goat Tying with a 7-second run, but had no time in the short go. Mckenna Brennan and Chaley Hext continued their momentum from Colby, Kansas. Brennan snuck into the short go after making an 8.6-second run to split the eighth through twelfth place. She made up for in the short go with a 7.7-second run to place third and finish fourth in the average. Hext stayed consistent with 8.3-second and 8.5-second runs to place sixth in both the rounds and the average. Kelsey Hallin finished seventh in the average after making an 8.2-second run in the long go and 9.9-second in the short go.

Savanna Morgan, a senior, was the lone ranger in the Barrel Racing. Morgan took on the muddy conditions and made a smooth run of 16.84-seconds to place seventh. With better arena conditions in the short go, Morgan made a smoking run of 15.9-seconds to place third which gave her fourth in the average.

Staying at the timed-event side of the arena, the freshmen and sophomores held their own in the Steer Wrestling. Tom Simpson, made the way placing second in both rounds with runs of 4.8-second and 4.2-seconds, and won the average for the weekend. Cooper Slavin grabbed third place in the long go with a 5-second and placed fifth in the average with a 9.5-second run in the short round. JD Robson split fifth and sixth in the long round and finished seventh in the short go and average. Cade Bell snagged his spot in the short go placing tenth but received a no time which took him out of the average.

Blue and red vests lined the bucking chutes in the Saddle Bronc riding with seven of the twelve competitors making the short round being from OPSU. Bailey Small and Cade Bell split second and third place in the long go with a 72-point ride. Small kept his rhythm with another 72-points in the short round to place third and finish second in the average. Ean Price made a strong stance with a 68-point ride to place fifth in the long go combined with 75-points in the short for second place and third in the average. Lane Giovannetti and Dylan Suhr tied for seventh and eighth in the long round with 64-point rides. Ira Dickinson and Kyle Cavender slid into the short go after splitting ninth, tenth, and eleventh in the long round with 63-point rides. Dickinson and Cavender took full advantage of their second rides placing fourth and fifth respectively in both the short go and the average. Bell, Giovanett, and Suhr all failed to make the whistle leaving them with no scores and out of the average.

Aggies look forward to building on their momentum as they take a few days before heading to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater this weekend.
