OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Oklahoma Panhandle State University freshman
Jalen Thomas (Amarillo, Texas/Palo Duro H.S.) has been named as this week's Sooner Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office.
Thomas had a red-hot week for the Aggies, averaging 28.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He shot 72.7% from the field (24-33) and better than 83% from the free throw line. He led the Aggies in scoring both games, wins over Langston (20 points) and Central Christian College (a career and OPSU-team high of 36 points).
Versus CCC, Thomas helped OPSU erase a 10 point deficit with 6:51 left; the Aggies rode the efforts of Thomas in closing out the game on a 23-8 run. Thomas tallied the first seven points of the spree and 13 total in the run.
Thomas has scored 20+ points in three of the team's last four games. On the year he is averaging 19.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, all while shooting 57.1% from the floor.
