STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University men's rodeo team took top honors at the Oklahoma State University rodeo last weekend, while the women's team tied for fifth. The Aggie cowboys racked up 475.0 points to out-distance runner-up Southeastern Oklahoma State University (430.0).
 
Senior Jade Taton narrowly missed out on another all-around buckle. Taton amassed 210.0 points, with all-around winner Wyatt Rogers of SEOSU scoring 220.0.
 
Taton won a tight competition in Bareback Riding, scoring a composite 145.0 points. Taton edged out Dylan Riggins of SEOSO, who scored 144.0.  Taton had a 72 in the long go-round and a 73 in the short go.
 
Taton also scored points in Saddle Bronc Riding, earning second in the long go with a 78.
 
OPSU was dominate in Saddle Bronc, with five cowboys scoring among the top eight finishers. Cooper Thatcher earned first place, riding his way to a total of 159.0 points. Thatcher won both go-rounds, with an 81 and 78, respectively.
 
Ean Price was third in the overall with 143.0 (70 and 73 points) and Brett Coffman picked up a fifth with his 141.0 (with scores of 71 and 70), followed by Mathew Swaim in sixth with 129.0 points.
 
In Team Roping, the Panhandle State duo of header Wyatt Murray and heeler Whitt Crozier took first place with a clocking of 12.2 seconds in overall average.  They tandem won both go-rounds with a 5.1 and 7.1, respectively. OPSU heeler Colton Reed teamed up with Nathan Poss (Ft. Hays State) to place fifth in Team Roping.
 
In Steer Wrestling, Sam Goings won the long go at 3.3 seconds and Trevor Meier was second at 3.5 seconds. Both got a no time in the short go, however.
 
TJ Schmidt had ride of 79 in the long go-round of Bull Riding.
 
In the women's competition, Sydney Bottom had a time of 16.30 in the long go of Barrel Racing, but hit two barrels in the short go-round.
 
Fellow OPSU cowgirl Santana Smith split 6-7 points in Goat Tying with an aggregate time of 15.9 (7.6 and 8.3). Teammate Anna Mau was 12th in the average with 17.3 seconds (7.6 and 9.7).
