GARDEN CITY, Kan. — Helen Poer won the long go-round and finished first in the breakaway roping average at the Garden City Community College Rodeo held March 27-29, while the Oklahoma Panhandle State men finished in sixth place as a team.
Men's Performances
Luke Tippmann earned 110 points for the men by finishing third in the bareback riding average. Tippmann took third in the long go with a strong score of 78 before placing fourth in the short go with his 74.5.
Zane Kreikemeier added another 85 points to the team total, using a first-place, 9.2-seconds finish in the tie-down roping short round to catapult the senior to fourth in the average.
Jack Mancini made the saddle bronc riding finals with a first-round score of 58, but he did not recorded a score in the short go.
Women's Performances
Poer positioned herself well after winning the first round with a time of 2.1 seconds in the breakaway roping. The Gruver, Texas, native was stellar in the short go as well, recording a time of 2.3 seconds to take first in the average. Her total time between the rounds was 0.7 seconds faster than the runner-up's combined time.
Falyn Thomson made the short go in the barrel racing after taking 10th in the long go as she stopped the clock at 13.93 seconds. Thomson's total time kept her from earning points for OPSU, however.
Freshman
Sutten Parkison had a good showing in the long go of breakaway roping, missing out on short-go qualifying by 0.1 seconds with her time of 3.1 seconds.
Cierra Rimer was just behind in the long round as well at 3.2 seconds.
Kiley Slavin also was the first competitor out of short-go qualifying in goat tying, as she stopped the clock at 7.5 seconds in the long round, just 0.1 seconds over what she needed to make finals.
What's up next: Panhandle State Rodeo has a week off before traveling to Weatherford, Oklahoma, April 9-11 for a rodeo hosted by Southwestern Oklahoma State.
