Panhandle State's rodeo team traveled to Kansas State University for their first rodeo of the spring semester. The men's team brought home the weekend win while the women's team placed fourth overall.

Whitt Crozier, a senior, led the way for the Aggies by winning the All-Around Champion for the weekend making it back in the Tie-Down Roping and Team Roping.

Crozier was the underdog coming into the short go in the Tie-Down Roping after placing tenth in the long round after fellow senior, Quint Bell, and freshman, Tom Simpson. Bell split second through fourth in the long go with Simpson just behind in sixth. Crozier went for the round win shaving 2.8 seconds off his previous time, and Bell stayed consistent placing second. Bell and Crozier split the average win, while Simpson received a no time in the short go.

Crozier made his second appearance in the short go with senior, Wyatt Murray, in the Team Roping. They earned their spot after placing third in the long round but came up empty in the short go.

Senior, Trevor Meier, started his spring off in the Steer Wrestling with momentum as he placed fifth in the long round. He was accompanied by sophomore, Cooper Slavin, who split eighth and ninth to make the short go. Meier kept his focus making a run to split second and third which put him third in the average. Slavin caught the barrier on his short go run making him too long to place in the average.

Freshman, Caleb Newell, made his marks in the Saddle Bronc Riding with seniors, Ean Price and Ira Dickinson, in the bucking chutes with him. Newell placed third with a 68-point ride in the long go with Price and Dickinson splitting fourth, fifth, and sixth with 65-point rides. Newell and Price stayed consistent placing fourth and fifth respectively in both the short go and the average. Dickinson received a no score in the short go.

Kelly Murnion, a senior, was the lone contestant for the Aggies in both Bareback Riding and Bull Riding for the short go.  Murnion split ninth and tenth in the long round of the Bareback Riding and placed eighth in the short go and average. He made a 71-point ride in the Bull Riding to place second in the long go. With luck on his side, he received a no score in the short go but placed second in the average.

For the women's team, the upperclassmen led the way in the Breakaway Roping. Senior, Beau Peterson, and junior, Tatum Hall, split fourth and fifth in the long go while senior, Alex Hamilton, was a tenth of a second behind them placing sixth. Kate Dickinson, a senior, grabbed her spot in the short go by splitting eighth through twelfth. Dickinson knew she had to be fast to place in the average, and she was with a 3-second run placing second in the short go and the average. Hall barely got the barrier which put her seventh in the average. Hamilton and Peterson had tough luck in the short go.

Freshman, Parker Mcintyre, couldn't let the upperclassmen have all the glory so she made solid runs in the Goat Tying. She placed fifth in the long round with senior, Santana Smith, on her heels placing seventh.  Mcintyre stayed steady under pressure placing third with a 6.4-second run in the short go and third in the average. Smith had a tough draw and had no time in the short go.

The cowboys and cowgirls will come back to build on the success of the weekend before heading to Fort Scott, Kansas on March 11.
