OPSU Football Faces Tough Challenge Against Southwest Baptist University

The Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Aggies faced a challenging matchup against the Southwest Baptist University (SBU) Bearcats on Saturday night, resulting in a final score of 51-7 in favor of SBU.
 
The Bearcats struck first in the opening quarter with a well-executed Collin Sutton pass, completing a 5-yard touchdown to Jaquan Dorsey. Logan Turner's successful PAT kick put SBU on the scoreboard. With 1:20 remaining in the first quarter, Abel Carter of SBU found the endzone with a 9-yard rush, extending their lead. SBU further increased their advantage with a 55-yard pass, making the score 21-0.
 
The first half concluded with SBU leading 24-0, thanks to a 44-yard field goal by Logan Turner. However, the Aggies managed to force their first of two turnovers in the second quarter, as Collin Sutton's pass was intercepted by Loren Snead, who returned it for 3 yards.
 
The third quarter began with a 42-yard field goal by Logan Turner for SBU. OPSU's defense stepped up, with Desmond Greene intercepting Collin Sutton's pass in the red zone, marking the Aggies' second turnover of the game. Despite these efforts, SBU managed to score again, extending their lead to 34-0.
 
OPSU made a remarkable offensive play in the third quarter when Brandon Stephen connected with Draylon Roberts on a 90-yard touchdown pass. Alan Munoz successfully converted the PAT, putting the Aggies on the board.
 
The third quarter ended with SBU leading 44-7. In the fourth quarter, SBU continued to add to their lead, ultimately securing a 65-7 victory.
 
Coach Cory Miller had this to say after the game, "We knew we had a big challenge in front of us" said Coach Miller. "This game gave us a lot of good film to break down and learn from for the upcoming games that count."
 
The OPSU football team is eager to regroup and prepare for Wayland Baptist University on September 9th on the road, kickoff is set for 6:00 PM.
