Aggies Wrap up Home Schedule Undefeated with Senior Day Win

GOODWELL, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State women's soccer team (6-6-1, 3-4-1 SAC) clinched a Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament berth and an undefeated regular season at home on Friday with a 3-0 win over Texas Wesleyan (3-11-2, 1-8).

Following the victory, the Aggies celebrated six of their soon-to-be graduating players – AlaraLynn Gunderson, Celeste Maldonado, Yaddelis Alderete, Emma Daskalov, Mallory Maltese and Cayla Hoch. All of those seniors have been part of the two best seasons in women's soccer program history, including this season's historic six victories under head coach Ken McAlpine.

Despite thoroughly outshooting the Rams in the first half Friday, the Aggies could not tally a goal as the halftime scoreboard read 0-0.

OPSU got its chance in the 57th minute, when Emily Chavez stepped up for a penalty kick. She split the diving TWU goalkeeper and the post for the game winner, her second such score in three goals on the year.

The Aggies added on in the 79th minute on a beautiful combination from Alderete to Toriana Holt, with Holt's goal being her fifth and Alderete's helper her third of the season.

Panhandle State wasn't done yet, tacking on a score two minutes later when Daskalov – who will finish her career as the Aggies' all-time leading scorer – worked her way through traffic and fired a shot past the goalie for the goal.

OPSU took 22 shots (13 on goal) on the afternoon compared to the Rams' five shots. Chavez, Emma Contreras, Daskalov and Anne Fernandes each finished with multiple shots on goal.

Gunderson picked up her 10th career goalkeeper win while adding three saves in a combined shutout with Emma Shockley.

What's up next: Panhandle State has one more opportunity to improve on its sixth-place spot in the SAC standings when it travels to Wayland Baptist (4-8, 2-5) on Tuesday for the regular season finale.
