TOPEKA, Kan. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State men's and women's track & field teams began the 2025-26 indoor season on Saturday at the Washburn Alumni Invite, where six individuals broke school records.

Head coach Cyrus Hall sent his top performers to the early-December meet, and the athletes largely impressed.

School Records Set: Three men and three women set indoor school records for the Aggies in the following events … Men's Performances: Mosqueda's second shot put attempt went for 12.71 meters, giving the freshman the program record in his collegiate debut. William Sirmans was the other thrower to compete, and he led the Aggies in the weight throw with a distance of 10.65 meters.

Martinez completed the 600-yard run in 1:15.45 for the school record, as he took 16th overall in the 24-man event.

Samaron took 12th of 22 runners in the 5k, stopping the clock at a program-best 16:48.15.

Six runners competed in the 60-meters, with all of them performing in the top-75 out of 101 sprinters. Dillon Bruington led the group, clocking a time of 7.11 seconds to take tied-54th.

Senior Austin White raced to a time of 22.05 seconds in the 200-meters, good for 24th out of 78 runners. Meanwhile, freshman David Okorie blazed onto the scene in his debut, grabbing the Aggies' lone individual top-10 finish by crossing in 50.03 seconds in the 400-meters, an event that featured 43 competitors.

OPSU also ran in the 4x400-meter relay, where Martinez, Okorie, Diego Hernandez and Christian Soto took seventh with a time of 3:22.02.

Women's Performances: Carrasco re-wrote her own program-best mark in the weight throw, notching a distance of 12.02 meters to take 24th of 40 participants. Avery Brown also competed in the throwing events, where she narrowly bested Carrasco in the shot put with a mark of 9.64 meters.

Chavez opened her junior track campaign by breaking the 5,000-meter program record, stopping the clock at 20:38.66 to finish sixth in the event.

Kemp, meanwhile, topped her program-record time in the 400-meters by coming in at 59.71 seconds to grab 11th place out of 50 runners.

Kemp also paced the Aggies in both the 60- and 200-meters, though both Paizlie Reyna-Mata and Ashlynn Perez were within 0.1 seconds of Kemp's 8.13-second time in the 60-meters.

Coach Hall's Thoughts: "We looked really good today almost all the way across the board," Hall said, continuing, "But we weren't fast all the way across the board, so I think that bodes well for the future. Having said that, a lot of our kids were way faster this year than they were last year, so I'm really excited about that."

"Our throwers threw well today, especially in the weight throw. Brittney and Avery both made some nice strides – Brittney broke the school record. And the boys threw well, too. Xavyer threw the shot well."

Hall also mentioned he was impressed by the efforts of Jason Granillo in his three events, while Reyna-Mata performed well with two big personal-bests.

What's up next: OPSU is off until the spring semester, when the teams will first compete at the Colorado Classic in Boulder, Colorado, from Jan. 16-17.
