BOULDER, Col. — A strong contingent of track runners for Oklahoma Panhandle State competed Saturday in the second day of events at the Colorado Invitational, hosted by the University of Colorado.
Â
With OPSU's athletes participating in their first meet of 2026, several indoor personal records were set on the men's side while many Aggies were just shaking off the rust.
Â
Men's Performances: Junior sprinter
Jason Granillo set a pair of indoor personal records in the 60- and 200-meters, with his efforts leading seven OPSU men who competed in the latter. Granillo clocked a time of 22.31 seconds in the 200-meters to place 13th of 32 finishers, and his time in the 60-meters came in at 7.14 seconds.
Â
Dillon Bruington was just shy of his indoor best in the 60-meters, as he crossed the line in 7.08 seconds.
Austin White was two spots behind his teammate, taking 16th of 29 with his indoor PR of 7.10 seconds.
Â
In the 200-meters, freshman
Christian Soto impressed as Panhandle State's second finisher at 22.44 seconds to nab 16th in the 32-man field. White and Bruington also came in at under 23.0 seconds.
Â
Other competitors for OPSU included
Alan Martinez with his time of 50.48 seconds in the 400-meters and
Joshua Samaron, who completed the 3,000-meters in 9:45.96.
Â
Women's Performances: Ashlynn Perez missed out of qualifying for finals by one spot in the 60-meters, as she opened 2026 with a time of 8.16 seconds in the event to lead the Aggies.
Â
In the 200-meters,
Breyanna Kemp took seventh of 21 by recording a time of 26.38 seconds.
Paizlie Reyna-Mata placed 15th, completing in 27.32 seconds as she stayed well ahead of her 2024-25 indoor marks in the event.
Â
Kemp also grabbed a top-10 finish in the 400-meters with her 1:01.62.
Ki'Anna Jones rounded out the women's day in the 600-meters by crossing in 1:46.53.
Â
Coach Cyrus Hall's Thoughts: "It was sloppy, it was the first meet after break, rust buster, we were just super sloppy. … Beyond that … I actually feel pretty good about some of what we did today considering we made a lot of mistakes."
Â
Hall took the time to highlight two individuals who were locked in on their race plans.
"I though
Jason Granillo had a pretty awesome day today," Hall said. "He executed pretty well, he was probably the only one in our entire group that executed like they needed to, with the exception of maybe
Ki'Anna Jones. Ki'Anna had a pretty solid outing. Didn't quite run as fast as we wanted her to, but executed all the things that we had talked about."
Â
What's up next: The men's and women's track & field teams head to Wichita, Kansas, on Jan. 30-31 for the Herm Wilson Invite.
