COFFEYVILLE, Kan.  — The Oklahoma Panhandle State men's and women's track & field teams kicked off the outdoor season Thursday at the Dean Pryor Invitational, where
Wyatt Hamilton,
Xavyer Mosqueda andÂ
Alan Martinezbroke program records, and the women's 4x100-meter relay squad claimed a win.

The invite ended early due to an incident involving other teams, therefore the discus, 5,000-meters and 4x400-meter relay events were not completed.

Men's Performances
Martinez set the program record in the 400-meter hurdles by over 2.0 seconds, completing the race in 1:00.02 to finish seventh of 14.

Mosqueda led a strong group of OPSU throwers, headlined by his school-record mark of 37.89 meters in the hammer throw. He placed 15th of 35 in the event, while
Ayden Hendershot was right behind in 16th with his throw of 36.43 meters.
In the discus,
Wyatt Hamilton set the program record by over three meters before the event was called, taking third place of 21 competitors with his mark of 42.65 meters.Â

The Aggies were also led by Mosqueda in the javelin throw at 34.16 meters.
William Sirmans followed right behind at 33.87 meters, setting a personal record by over four meters. The senior also broke his PR in the hammer by a similar margin.Â

Mosqueda, Hamilton and Hendershot bunched up in the shot put, recording distances slightly above 11.70 meters to finish amongst the top half of throwers.

Dillon Bruington highlighted an abundance of fast, albeit wind-aided, times in the 100-meters, clocking in at 10.61 seconds to take sixth place out of 51 competitors.
Austin White also nabbed a spot in the top 10 at 10.63 seconds, and
Christian Soto was right behind at 10.67 seconds.
Jason Granillo and
Gino Sapalo both came in under 11.00 seconds in impressive performances, finishing near the middle of the collective pack.

White and Bruington grabbed sixth and ninth out of 53 overall in the 200-meters, finishing in 21.79 and 21.93 seconds, respectively. Soto, Granillo and
David Okorie all placed within the top half as well, coming in under 23.00 seconds in the wind-aided race.

Joshua Samaron paced OPSU in the 1,500-meters with his 4:29.16, and the 4x100-meter relay group of
Trenton Peterson, Sapalo, Martinez and Okorie placed fifth out of 11 teams with its time of 43.15 seconds.

Women's Performances
The 4x100-meter relay team of
Akia Bowens,
Paizlie Reyna-Mata,
Breyanna Kemp and
Ashlynn Perez ran well, finishing in 49.95 seconds to take first place.

Kemp and Perez both placed in the top eight out of 16 in the 100-meters, crossing with wind-aided marks of 12.40 and 12.47 seconds, respectively. Kemp claimed fourth place in the 200-meters with her time of 25.92 seconds, and Bowens joined her for a top-10 finish at 27.72 seconds.

Paizlie Reyna-Mata blazed to a big PR in the 400-meters by clocking a 1:05.32.
Ki'Anna Jones also set her outdoor personal best in the 800-meters by roughly four seconds, completing the race in 2:30.78.

Carolina Valenzuela raced to a time of 5:18.37 in the 1,500-meters to place sixth of 21.
Shania Chavez and
Lillyan Gerow were not far behind in 13th and 14th place, hovering around 5:32.00.

Avery Brown put up a solid mark of 36.86 meters in the hammer throw, good for eighth place of 27 competitors.
Brittney Carrasco finished just outside the top half at 33.16 meters.

Coach Cyrus Hall's Thoughts: "The sprinters had a great day today … We were lights out in the 100-meters, we were really pretty good in the 200-meters as well."

Hall was also complimentary of his throwers, especially Brown and Sirmans. Amongst both the sprinters and throwers across the board, he mentioned that it was great to see a bunch of personal records.
Â
"Overall, I thought it went pretty good. It was windy, that kind of affects some things, but we're excited to get the first one under our belt and see some good things happen."

What's up next: OPSU heads to Leavenworth, Kansas, from March 20-21 for the University of Saint Mary Spire Distance Carnival & Team Challenge, with the distance runners set to go in the first day of events.
