OPSU Men's Results Jo Meaker Classic | OPSU Men's Results Tabor Invite
CANYON, Texas — The Oklahoma Panhandle State men's track & field team competed Thursday through Saturday, with the runners at the Jo Meaker Classic at West Texas A&M University and the throws group at the Tabor College Invitational.
Jo Meaker Classic
Dillon Bruington continued his strong season, racing to a time of 10.71 seconds to lead the Aggies in the 100-meters. Working his way back into the swing of things,
Gino Sapalo recorded a time of 11.07 seconds, while
Trenton Peterson set a personal record with his 11.26 seconds race.
"(Trenton) PR'ed). I'm really happy for him, we're all really happy for him. … It was really nice to see some of his hard work pay off," head coach
Cyrus Hall said. "He executed pretty well today, I thought."
Austin White blazed to a time of 21.49 seconds in the 200-meters to place 23rd of 65. The time marks a personal record, and it is the fastest pure time in the event in the SAC this year and second fastest wind-adjusted time.
Christian Soto also ran well with a personal-best 21.96, the first time he's completed the 200-meters in under 22.00 seconds with the Aggies.
Elsewhere,
David Okorie clocked a time of 50.30 seconds in the 400-meters,
Joshua Samaron raced to 16:30.16 for sixth place in the 5,000-meters, and
Bramhan Matschek completed the steeplechase in 11:44.44.
Coach Hall's Thoughts: "I feel pretty good where we're at, I feel a lot better this weekend about my sprinters than I did last weekend, we've just got to stay healthy," Hall said.
Tabor College Invite
On Saturday, the Aggie throws group competed in Hillsboro, Kansas.
Wyatt Hamilton and
Ayden Hendershot made finals in the discus, notching top marks of 41.64 and 40.28 meters, respectively, to lead the team.
In the hammer throw,
Xavyer Mosqueda put up a distance of 40.86 meters to grab sixth place. Hendershot finished inside the top 10 with his mark of 37.87 meters, and
Aaron Vinson was third among OPSU athletes in the event with his throw of 33.27 meters.
"I thought
Aaron Vinson had a really good day today. He (nearly) PR'ed in the hammer, then he fouled another PR, then he fouled another one, but he looked really good doing it," Hall said.
Coach Hall's Thoughts: "They're all starting to get to the point where they're figuring things out, so they had a good week last week, and this week they were excited about that. … I think they just got themselves – for the most part, not everybody – got overly excited and tried to do too much."
"We're a lot closer than we think we are to being really good, but we're just trying too hard," Hall said.
What's up next: The Aggies have a week off before heading to Nelson University for the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships, held April 24-25.
