LEVELLAND, Texas  — Led by throwers Avery Brown and Brittney Carrasco, the Oklahoma Panhandle State women's track & field team compiled an abundance of season-bests at the South Plains College Alumni Elite Invite, held Friday.

Brown approached the school record in the discus, finishing just shy of it at 34.20 meters for a new PR. Carrasco, meanwhile, had her season-best discus at 30.96 meters.

The two throwers continued their strong days with the season's top two marks in the hammer, with Brown at 40.04 and Carrasco at 38.92 meters. Concluding their efforts, Brown put up a mark of 10.41 meters in the shot put, and Carrasco competed in the javelin for the first time in 2026 with a mark of 20.04 meters.

As for the sprinters, Breyanna Kemp and Ashlynn Perez finished among the top 10 in the 100-meters, crossing in 12.43 and 12.65 seconds, respectively.

Kemp found her form in the 200-meters, easily besting her top 2026 mark at 25.15 seconds, taking fourth in the event.

Ki'Anna Jones continued her improvement in the 800-meters, running a PR of 2:28.08. Distance runners joined her in the event, with Carolina Valenzuela finishing right behind Jones with her 2:31.06.

Valenzuela, Shania Chavez and Lillyan Gerow each set season-bests in the 1,500-meters, with the trio all finishing under 5:30.00. Valenzuela recorded a finish of 5:10.58, Chavez was at 5:15.84, and Gerow rounded out the group at 5:29.90.

The 4x100-meter relay team also improved slightly, putting up a season-best time of 48.54 seconds with Jones, Paizlie Reyna-Mata, Kemp and Perez.

Neo Trim had her season-best performance in the triple jump, topping out at 9.86 meters.

Coach Cyrus Hall's Thoughts: Hall was happy to see Kemp run well as the season is shaping up, and he was especially complimentary of Brown and Carrasco.

"Brittney and Avery were awesome in the hammer throw. Brittney PR'ed today and threw a bunch of really good throws, and Avery PR'ed on five of her six throws today, or beat her previous-best PR. So, I think the throwers are coming together, I'm really excited about them. About three more weeks, and they're all going to be really comfortable with some of the things that we're doing, and then hopefully that light switch hits and they go crazy at conference. … I'm proud of them, they did really good today."

What's up next: The Aggies are scheduled to head to Canyon, Texas, April 10-11 for the Jo Meaker Classic, serving as the final meet before the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships.
