OKLAHOMA CITY — The Sooner Athletic Conference announced its Track & Field Athletes of the Week from Jan. 19-25 on Tuesday afternoon, and
Avery Brown of Oklahoma Panhandle State received the honor for SAC women's field athletes.
Brown led the Aggies in the shot put and weight throw on Thursday at the JD Martin Invitational at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. There, Brown notched a mark of 10.11 meters in the shot put and 11.97 meters in the weight throw. Both performances marked season-bests for the Little Elm, Texas, native, with her shot put distance giving her a sixth-place finish out of 10 total competitors.
The redshirt sophomore's shot put mark is also the farthest this season for the Aggies by 0.47 meters, while Brown's weight throw topped her previous season-best by 0.90 meters.
Brown's accolade from the SAC is the first of the season for OPSU track & field, the second of her career, and the 17th total received across all Panhandle State athletics in the 2025-26 year.
Brown and the Aggies continue their indoor campaign on Friday and Saturday in Wichita, Kansas, for the Herm Wilson Invite.
