OKLAHOMA CITY — The Sooner Athletic Conference announced its Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week from March 16-22 on Tuesday, and Avery Brown of Oklahoma Panhandle State received the honor for women's field athletes.
 
The redshirt sophomore led OPSU's efforts in both the hammer and discus throw Saturday at the University of Saint Mary Spire Team Challenge. She finished near the middle of the pack in strong fields of 20 and 24, respectively, notching a distance of 35.89 meters in the hammer and 32.75 meters in the discus throw.
 
The award for Brown comes in the first week of SAC Outdoor Track & Field Awards during 2026. It marks the Little Elm, Texas, native's third weekly conference award of her career, including an indoor honor Brown garnered in January.
 
Panhandle State Athletics has been the recipient of 20 SAC Athlete of the Week honors across all sports in the 2025-26 year.
