Goodwell, Okla.—This Saturday, the Panhandle State Aggies football team will take on their first Central State Football League opponent of the season, meeting Bacone College at 2 p.m. on Sept. 16.

Sporting a back-and-forth of wins and losses since 2014, The Aggies overall record against the Bacone Warriors is 5-7, and Coach Gaskamp hopes to add another win over the Warriors to kick off the Aggies first CSFL game of the season.

The Aggies started off strong in the first half against big-time rival Tarleton last weekend but ultimately fell to the Texans in the third and fourth quarters. The Aggies suffered some drawbacks on special teams and Coach Gaskamp plans on revamping this week before the face off against Bacone. "We may see some new faces on special teams this week, we ultimately just need to make some adjustments there; that will be our number one emphasis, "says Gaskamp.

Gaskamp overall was impressed by the way his athletes performed on both sides of the ball, offensively and defensively they competed well against the high quality Texans lines. Sophomore starting quarterback D.J. Scott was high on the list of standouts last week. "He is our starter," affirms Gaskamp, "We wanted to give him the vote of confidence he deserved and I am proud of his decision making throughout the game, he made a lot of great plays with his feet that allowed our offense to really open up and make some great plays." Gaskamp continues, "I am also proud of John Polston who is an extremely talented athlete and played well for us, as well as Kameron Lyons who asserted great dominance over the field and played with great effort." Freshman quarterback John Polston stepped in for Scott during the second half, and senior defensive lineman Kameron Lyons showed through his post Tarleton game film that he will certainly become a key player in the Aggies foundation.

Coach Gaskamp is altering his depth chart and attuning his focus game by game. He notes that Bacone is an improved team since their last bout in 2015 when the Aggies took down the Warriors in a landslide win 69-20. Gaskamp remarks on their starting quarterback, senior Samuel Sewards III, "He is a talented player and we have respect for him." Bacone will likely pose a challenge defensively but Gaskamp holds confidence in his team.

Coach Gaskamp expresses his pride for the ability to compete for a conference championship, and is enthusiastic about their first CSFL match up of the season. "You can't win them all until you win the first one," Gaskamp says ardently. The Aggies will play the Warriors Saturday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. in Muskogee, but campus and community fans can follow along with live streaming and stats on opsuaggies.com.
