PRE-GAME NOTES:
*PIONEERS AT-A-GLANCE: WBU (3-4, 2-3 SAC) is currently tied – with Panhandle State – for fifth place in the SAC standings. WBU is coming off of a 42-7 loss to Lyon College last Saturday. The Pioneers' SAC wins have come versus Texas College and SAGU.
*AGGIES AT-A-GLANCE: Coming off of a bye week last Saturday, the Aggies have losses to both an NCAA Division I foe (Sam Houston State) and to nationally-ranked Langston (35-14) on their ledger. OPSU also fell at Hastings in its opener, to then-No. 20 Ottawa-Arizona (47-7) in Goodwell and on the road at Arizona Christian two weeks ago. Panhandle has notched wins – both in the SAC – versus Texas College and a double-overtime thriller at home against Texas Wesleyan three weeks ago.
*THE SERIES: This will be the sixth meeting between OPSU and the Pioneers. The Aggies have won all five of the previous meetings, including last year's 20-17 win in Goodwell.
*ROAD WARRIORS: Saturday will be Panhandle State's sixth road game – in eight outings – of the 2019 season. Travel has not been too kind to OPSU, either, going 1-4 in those road bouts.
*LAST MEETING: In 2018, up 20-3 at halftime, the Aggies allowed WBU to stage a second-half comeback, with Wayland scoring seven points in each of the final two quarters and held on for the 20-17 win. Miscues on the offensive side of the ball, along with four 15-yard penalties after the half, offered unearned momentum for the Pioneers. The OPSU defense contained the would-be catastrophe by holding their opponents to negative rushing yards (-24) and less than 200 yards passing (196). A concerted defensive effort by Panhandle State, stuck the Pioneers with a 1-13 conversion rate on third down and brought six sacks on Wayland's Nick Quintero, who received steady pressure at the line for the duration of the game.
*TEAM SAC STATS: OPSU is second in rushing yards per game (183.1), while WBU is second in passing yards per game (236.3). Panhandle is the least penalized team in the SAC, drawing just 44 flags on the year, for an average of just 62.3 penalty yards per game.
*DOWNTOWN TONY BROWN: Aggies sophomore quarterback
Tony Brown leads the Aggies in rushing at 741 yards (105.9 y.p.g.), averaging 5.7 yards per carry, total offense (176.0 y.p.g.) and passing (70.1 y.p.g.). Brown has rushed for six TDs and thrown for five more.
*CENTURY MARK: Tony Brown has had four 100+ yard rushing game this season, including a season-high 225 yards versus Ottawa-Arizona.
*POUNDS FOR POUNDS: Senior all-American linebacker
Diamante Pounds is second in the SAC in tackles per game, averaging 8.7 stops per contests. He is also 10th in tackles for loss per game (1.4 p.g.).
*WHAT "BROWN" CAN DO FOR THE AGGIES: UPS has nothing on the Aggies in asking: "What can Brown do for you?" If your name is "Brown" on the Crimson and Blue roster, the answer is: "A lot!" Quarterback
Tony Brown leads the team in rushing, total offense, passing and scoring. Wide receiver
Jaishone Brown tops the team with 21 receptions for 262 yards and two touchdowns. Defensive back
Malik Brown has 24 tackles and an interception.
*NEXT UP: The Aggies return home to take on SAGU on Saturday, November 9 (2 p.m.).
