Oklahoma Panhandle State University is proud to announce that five outstanding soccer players have been named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams. Mallory Maltese, Rebecca Herriotts, and Mya Szymanski represent the women's soccer team, while Daniel De Mello and Zane Doehring have earned this prestigious honor for the men's soccer team.
The Academic All-District Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their exceptional performances on the field and in the classroom.To qualify for the Academic All-District award, student-athletes must be a sophomore standing and maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA.
On the women's soccer team, Mallory Maltese, a sophomore defender from Eastvale, CA, started 11 of 15 games, contributing both defensively and offensively with 1 goal and 1 assist. Rebecca Herriotts, a senior forward from Glenwood, MD, showcased her commitment by starting in all 15 games, scoring 1 goal during the season. Mya Szymanski, a senior goalkeeper from Oklahoma City, OK, started 13 of 15 games and earned SAC All-Conference 2nd-Team Honors. Mya's exceptional goalkeeping skills were highlighted by her 91 saves on 152 shots faced, averaging an impressive 6 saves per game and securing the 3rd position in the conference.
Turning the attention to the men's soccer team, Daniel De Mello, a senior defender hailing from Egham, Surrey, England, started 4 of 8 games played and scored a crucial goal during the season. Zane Doehring, a sophomore forward from Frederick, CO, made his mark by starting 8 of 15 games and providing 2 assists.
These exceptional student-athletes will now advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, with first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees set to be announced on December 19 (men) and December 20 (women).
