OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Panhandle State men's and women's soccer teams are set to open SAC Tournament play with the quarterfinals round at Oklahoma City University on Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m., respectively, as the eighth and sixth seeds.
Eight teams from both sports earned a spot in the SAC Tournament, with the higher seed hosting each individual match for every round.
The Aggie men are making their fourth tournament appearance in program history, and the women are making their second (including the second straight year). This 2025 season marks the first time both programs have made the tournament in the same year.
Men's Bracket (SAC Preview)
Wayland Baptist, Mid-America Christian and RV John Brown join Oklahoma City as the top four seeds in descending order for the SAC Tournament. Only five points separated first-seeded OCU (5-0-4) and fourth-seeded WBU (4-3-2) in the final SAC standings.
The final four seeds, beginning with fifth-seeded Nelson (3-4-2) and ending with eighth-seeded OPSU (2-4-3), are separated by just two points. Nine of the 10 total SAC squads this year had at least two draws in the conference season, as the SAC has been competitive all year from top to bottom.
Should OPSU advance in the quarterfinals match Tuesday at OCU, it would face either Wayland Baptist or Nelson on Friday, Nov. 7, in the semifinals. The Aggies tied 0-0 earlier this season against the Lions, and they fell 1-0 to the Pioneers.
In the previous matchup at OCU, Panhandle State got on the board first with a goal from
Simon Echeverry in a 3-2 loss.
Ayoup Bader landed the other goal, which tied the game at 2-2 in the 63rd minute.
The Aggies' calling card all season has been their defense, which helped fuel them to a 1-0 road win over third-seeded MACU two weeks ago. Panhandle State is tied-third in the SAC this season with 10 goals allowed in conference play, behind only OCU and MACU. It will need another stellar defensive performance to upset the Stars on Tuesday, combined with capitalizing on a scoring chance – something it was unable to do in the final two regular-season games.
Women's Bracket (SAC Preview)
The top four seeds on the women's side begin with top-seeded, No. 11 John Brown, followed by Science & Arts, RV Oklahoma City and RV Mid-America Christian. All four of those teams have at least five wins in conference play, along with fifth-seeded Southwestern Christian.
There is a two-win drop-off from SCU (5-4) to OPSU (3-4-2) in conference play, although the Aggies clear seventh-seeded Nelson and eighth-seeded Wayland Baptist by two and four points, respectively.
Though the Aggies struggled in an early-season showdown against its quarterfinals opponent, OCU (6-2-1), Panhandle State has shown the ability to play with the top teams. That includes notching a 1-1 draw against then-No. 21 USAO, whom the Aggies could face on Nov. 8 if they advance Wednesday.
OPSU has shown the ability to score from anywhere on the pitch this season, with
Emily Chavez producing outstanding results on her corner kicks and
Emma Contreras proving she can strike from long distance.
Furthermore,
Emma Daskalov and
Toriana Holt have each had streaks of three consecutive games with a goal scored this season, as they lead the squad with six goals apiece. Panhandle State will likely need continued goal-scoring magic to advance past the Stars on Wednesday.
