GOODWELL, Okla. — Oklahoma panhandle State University Athletics has named women's soccer's Emma Contreras and football's Rylan Johnson as the Aggies of The Week for their performances from the past week of play.
Contreras has dominated for the Aggies in SAC play, scoring four goals in the first five games of conference. This past week the Aggies played two more games in their homestand, facing Central Christian and No. 21 Science & Arts. Against Central Christian, Contreras would score in the 31st minute and then give the Aggies a go-ahead goal in the 78th minute that would end in a 3-2 victory for the Aggies. Fast forward to Friday where Contreras hit a long-range, game-tying goal in the 81st minute to lead the Aggies to a result against 21st-ranked USAO – the first point in program history against a ranked opponent. Her three goals, including 15 totals shots (six on goal) during the week spearheaded the offense and helped keep OPSU unbeaten at home this season.
Johnson had a great weekend himself, as his career-high 26 carries for 123 yards catapulted the Aggies to a huge win against Nelson University. Johnson had previously been battling injuries, but there were zero injuries to be seen this weekend as he was shooting gaps with explosiveness, featuring a 31-yard run up the seams to give the Aggies a huge momentum boost that would later translate into a score. His performance pushed his total rushing yards to 327 on the season. Johnson and the Aggies will take on Arkansas Baptist College this weekend in OPSU Athletics' lone home game of the week.
