GOODWELL, Okla. — Oklahoma Panhandle State University athletics has selected Emma Daskalov of women's soccer and football's Charles Holmes III as the Mack's Motorsports Aggies of the Week for their performances during the week of Oct. 13-19.
The Aggies women's soccer team squared off against the No. 10 team in the country in John Brown University at Siloam Springs on Saturday, where junior forward Daskalov scored in the 43rd minute of the match, increasing her totals to a team high of five goals and 11 points in an impressive season. The Berlin, Germany, native's play has helped the Aggies to currently sit sixth in the conference standings heading into the final stretch of games before the SAC playoffs.
Holmes III had a weekend to remember himself. The junior cornerback was a terror on defense, racking up two interceptions, a blocked punt, and 1.5 tackles for loss. The ball hawk got his first pick on the opening drive of the second half, where he was able to undercut a strong pass towards the endzone from Arkansas Baptist's quarterback, not only saving a score but giving the Aggies the ball back on offense. Then with just seconds left in the game, Holmes III tracked down another pass for his third interception in two weeks to send Arkansas Baptist home. Holmes III ability to seemingly be everywhere at once has allowed him to be a staple defensive piece for the Aggies as they look to make a strong push in the last three games of the season.
