OKLAHOMA CITY — Breakout freshman David Zeller was awarded the Sooner Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday recognizing performances from Sept. 29-Oct. 5.

Zeller, a wide receiver who starred with two long touchdown catches in the Sept. 27 Homecoming game, found the endzone again Saturday at Wayland Baptist – this time with a kickoff return.

The Austria native gave OPSU a glimmer of hope with a late 87-yard touchdown return Saturday, capping his special teams day that included three kickoff returns that yielded an impressive 39.3-yard average.

Zeller also caught two passes for a team-high 52 yards as he further showcased his electric abilities with the ball in his hands.

The honor marks the first OPSU football has picked up in the SAC this season, and it is the seventh weekly SAC award collected by Panhandle State Athletics in the 2025-26 year.

OPSU football (1-4, 0-3 SAC) is back in action at Anchor D Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 11, for a 4 p.m. kickoff versus Nelson (1-3, 1-2).
