Oklahoma Panhandle State University Athletics Announces 2025 Hall of Fame Inductee: Scott Dunnam
Goodwell, OK — Oklahoma Panhandle State University Athletics is proud to announce Scott Dunnam as a member of the OPSU Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Dunnam, who starred on the Aggie football team from 1964 to 1967, will be formally inducted during the annual Hall of Fame Ceremony this fall.
A true embodiment of Aggie grit and versatility, Scott Dunnam built a reputation as one of the most complete and relentless players to ever wear an Aggie uniform. Over his collegiate career, Dunnam showcased rare talent and adaptability by starting on both sides of the ball and excelling at three positions: defensive back, full back, and wide receiver. His teammates often described him as a "tuff sucker," praising not only his toughness but also his unquenchable competitive drive.
His versatility earned him All-Conference honors at each of those positions—defensive back, full back, and wide receiver—cementing his place among the most decorated athletes in Aggie football history. Dunnam's leadership also shone brightly; he was named team captain during his tenure, setting a standard of commitment, resilience, and lead-by-example determination.
Reflecting on his playing days, former teammates would joke that Scott was "like a hybrid racehorse, itching to get out of the gate"—a testament to his explosive energy, unrelenting work ethic, and enthusiasm for the game. Long before he knew it himself, Scott Dunnam was Hall of Fame worthy.
After graduating from OPSU, Dunnam continued to serve the game he loved and the communities that shaped him. He began his coaching career in his hometown of Lefors, Texas, before moving on to coach and work in administration in Pampa, Texas. His dedication to student-athletes and education left a lasting mark on countless young people. Later, Scott transitioned into the oil industry, working with Texaco in the oil fields until his retirement.
Beyond his many professional and athletic achievements, Scott Dunnam's personal story is one of devotion and family. He met his wife Janell at OPSU after exchanging glances in the cafeteria and before an intrasquad football scrimmage. After their first date, the rest was history. Together they built a loving family, raising four children: Lyssa, Cami, Chad, and Aaron. True to their father's example, both sons went on to become head high school football coaches.
Oklahoma Panhandle State University is honored to recognize Scott Dunnam for his exceptional athletic achievements, steadfast leadership, and lifelong commitment to excellence.
The Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for the Class of 2025 will take place September 20th on the beautiful campus of Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
