NEWTON, Kan. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State men's golf team climbed one spot up the leaderboard in its second round at Sand Creek Station Sunday, moving to an 11th-place finish overall at the Bethel College Spring Invitational.
Shorthanded for the weekend, the Aggies fired 331-337 for a two-day total of 668 in difficult scoring conditions on the par-72 course. They surged past Southwestern Christian on Sunday to claim 11th out of 14 teams.
Worathan Thammachokecharoen finished tied-19th among the 73-man field, making 23 total pars or better to shoot 79-80-159 on the weekend.
Placing tied-37th with a score of 163 was
Thantup Saengvut, whose first-round 78 was the lowest OPSU score at the Bethel Spring Invite. He started and ended Saturday's round with birdies across a double-bogey-free 18 holes.
Paul Mercado improved by one stroke Sunday from his opening-round 85. The sophomore's final round began with an eagle on the 364-yard 11th hole.
Takudzwa Basopo shot 89-88 to round out the Aggies' team score.
What's up next: OPSU is in action April 6-7 at Terradyne Country Club in Andover, Kansas, for the Lark Invitational, marking its last scheduled tune-up prior to the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship.
