Four members of the 1993-94 women's basketball team attended Friday's ceremony including Michelle Smiley-Conelly, Vernetra Allen, Tiphanie Looper Mathis, Raelee Olson Harrell, manager, and Angela Miller, who, coincidentally, is also Jay Miller's niece. Other members of the team include Vanessa Edwards, Kristee Dabovich Brower, Kewanna Harrell, Cyndee Gray Harness, Kaycee Hooper, Mercia Kerl, Sherida Valport, Stephanie Weilert, Student Assistant Christina Meyer Woody, and team managers Raelee Olson Harrell and Randa Olson. Jerry Olson, assisted by Stacy Nordquist, coached the team. He described how the team started slowly in 1993, but earned a spot as the first place seed in the Southwest Region tournament of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and hosted the regional tournament in their home gym. Jerry took the audience on a trip to Monmouth, Ore. where the women played in the national tournament, winning the first two rounds. In the championship game at the Elite 8, the women tipped off against No. 1 Northern State from Aberdeen, S.D. According to Olson, the Aggies led by 10 points four different times in the second half, but three games in three days proved too much, and they lost a 108-91 heartbreaker.
