Hill led the Aggie men's basketball team that dominated NAIA's District IX and helped take the team to the national tournament where they lost to the College of Charleston in the second round, the team that eventually won the national title. The Spring Hill, N.Y. native was a second team All-American on the 1982-1983 Aggie team and was a ninth round pick of the Kansas City Kings of the NBA. His coach, Terry Layton, said, "Bernard Hill was a very talented, skilled athlete. He was the only player that I coached that we listed ALL, when it asked for his position. He could play every position on the court with excellence. That is why he was an All-American and an NBA draft choice. I am not sure if there was a basketball skill that he was weak at. People never could figure out what positional player to guard him with. Finally, guys like Coach Ron Mayberry at Wayland Baptist started using their best athlete to guard him and we still beat them four times that year. B was an outstanding player and sure Hall of Fame winner."
